An Apology and Some Gifts
This is a little along the lines of “The dog ate my homework”, but I want to apologize for not sending a newsletter in April. In the process of attempting to change the ownership on one of my web sites, I inadvertently got locked out of this site for several weeks.
But like everything in life, there was a lesson to be learned, and the lesson in this case was to never assume that the other party knows what you're talking about, even if you think you've spelled out everything in great detail. All it takes is one little word that can be interpreted two ways, and if the other party interprets it in the way you didn't intend, you're both off to the races. Then it takes several rounds of “But I meant…” followed by “Yeah but you said…” before everything's straightened out and you stop complaining to your friends about how stupid the other party is and wondering why these things keep happening to you.
When we humans perfect mind reading, these situations will be a thing of the past. But in the meantime, they're a great opportunity to practice patience and tolerance.
In case you're wondering, the solution we eventually agreed on was to change everything back to the way it was and start again. How's that for ingenuity!
